Mayan Teal Blue is one of the pigments which Nila Colori prepares with the method used by ancient Maya for their blues. Archaeologists and other researchers were surprised by finding such bright colors still intact, even if exposed to atmospheric agents for centuries. Laboratory trials showed an uncommon fastness to strong acids and bases, in addition to different solvents. Analysis revealed that the coloring principle was indigo. Indigo was fixed on a specific clay.
